Tom,
I simply purchased 2 of the Manfrotto 1004BAC stands at Christmas, which were added to the ii that I have already. I also have two tripods and a monopod from Manfrotto along with a couple of heads. I know there are other stands out there that are cheaper just I like this equipment and information technology has never failed me.
I use the two new stands to back up two new Einsteins that I also got for Christmas (it was a good year).
I don't know annihilation about the Paul C. Buff stands, merely I am sure they are good, as are most other things that they sell. Plus their client service is teriffic.
The two types of stands are both air cushioned and extend/plummet to the same superlative. I like the fact that the Manfrotto stands are very flat when folded and they snap together for ease of storage and transport. The Manfrotto stands are also cheaper, which could pay for a sand bag or two.
The part number you give ifor the Manfrotto (1004BAC3) is actually a three piece stand kit that is substantially more expensive than if yous were to buy them seperately...for whatsoever sense that makes.
Skilful luck with whatever you lot get. I am certain y'all will be happy with either.

It's piece of cake to overbuy.
Do you really demand 12 foot stands in a basement?
And smaller stands are more portable for travel.
If I was ownership stands today, I'd get the Manfrottos that fold flat, and then they are easy to stack and take upwards less space.
And I'd get the kind with levers instead of knobs.
I've used Manfrotto standsfor decades -- not every mean solar day simply lots -- and am very happy with them.

John,
Thank you for the input and for catching my fault; I meant the single stand(Manfrotto 1004BAC) not the triple! I couldn't figure out why when arranged they cost more either!
Regards,
Tom

BAK,
Cheers for input. I was only thinking that I may not e'er exist confined to the basement and may want to have the latitude of the college height. Levers? now that sounds like something that I should actually look at considering I just love them on my Manfrotto tripod.

Tom

I've had the Manfrotto Stackers which fold flat and have levers instead of knobs, but I got rid of them because they didn't save any space and the levers continually needed adjusting to retain tension.
If you've never tried them, do so before you purchase once again.
Also, avert stands with plastic collars. When breaking downwards a ready the plastic collars don't want to let go of the stands and won't slide every bit easily as metal collars. A good thing you lot might remember - only I bought a kit of lights containing stands with plastic collars and they're so frustrating to use they hardly e'er go taken out of their bag.

The B&H Bear upon heavy duty stands are quite good; certainly better than the older Buff stands. I have heard that the Vitrify stands take been improved, simply I nevertheless think the B&H stands may exist amend.

The Manfrotto/Avenger light stands are ameliorate than the plain Manfrotto stands, but they are considerably more expensive.
Personally, I would become shorter stands and only get alpine ones when y'all need them. In that location are non only storage and portability concerns, but greater minimum tiptop of taller stands can occasionally be a trouble.
You might likewise want to consider a combi boom stand up:

All I can say is I withal accept my xiii' foot heavy duty Manfrottos from 25 years ago and though they are a bit scratched, they all the same work like a charm. Nothing has ever came loose. And I am a working pro that uses them all the time.
I also bought a set of medium size Manfrottos about 7 years ago, No bug with them either. Lighter weight and go about eight/ix anxiety high? Whatsoever. Good quality products.
A friend has some Buff stands. They seem ok. They look well built. Yet I will stick an industry standard. One less thing I need to worry near.

I have Buff stands, and they have worked well for me. I take not used much of annihilation else, but I have no complaints.
Regardless of which mode you go, there was a annotate above about how much peak you actually need. The height of stands oftentimes influences stability. I would rather have a 13' stand ready to eight' than an eight' stand at full. Also, higher stands oftentimes have bigger footprints and larger bore tubes.

I accept the Manfrotto 12' stands that y'all linked to. I have no feel with the Buff stands. I do have experience with the cheap knockoffs from NYC camera stores, and information technology'south not good.
Manfrotto simply makes great stuff. In addition to those, I have several Nanos. Every bit someone pointed out, it's not simply about how loftier the 12' stands go, but as well their more stable footprint. imho y'all can't go wrong with ANY manfrotto stands.
